Cutworms in my house? - Noctua pronuba

Cutworms in my house? - Noctua pronuba
Shrewsbury, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA
December 24, 2009
Size: 1.5 inches
Found 5 of these during the last two weeks. All in one area of the house. I am not a bug person and am just looking for help in identifying a) what it is and b) why it seems to live inside the house Thanks.

Moved
Moved from ID Request.

Not an ID, but it looks a bit like...
Large Yellow Underwing - Noctua pronuba

I can't say why they're in the house, unless maybe they're looking for a warm, safe place to pupate.

Perhaps someone else will be able to confirm or correct my tentative identification, and shed more light on the critters' behavior.

I agree with that ID
and I know they are still crawling around because I found one outside on the sidewalk last week. It was plump and healthy. However, NW WA is a bit warmer than Massachusetts in December.

Thank You
Thank you both for identifying this for me.
