Egg case on goldenrod leaf.

Size: roughly 1 cm in diamter
A friend brought me this unusual egg case in the fall. I photographed it and returned it to her; I think she plans to see what hatches out, but I don't expect that to happen before the spring. Any thoughts? The bumpy projections looked more prominent and uniform in real life.
