And it looks like it might be the same as this one.

Yes
The short first tarsal segment on the hind leg is easily visible here and is a key characteristic for that family. Nice shot.

Hi Tom
I'm having so much fun being amazed by how many creatures you encountered today.
I'll have to find a marsh and shake some cattails.

Lynn

Lynn,
Winter can yield some nice bugs that you won't find in the summer. Today was about 35 degrees, so I took a walk for a few hours through the woods and by a couple of swamps. When it's above freezing, there's a fair number of bugs to be found out on the snow, especially spiders. At least this way I don't have to wait for Spring to find some bugs.

Tom
Today I was out for about 45 minutes and saw a woodlouse, a few springtails and a midge (which got away) and was surprised to see them.
You have really inspired me to take a closer look. One advantage must also be that they are a little slowed down by the cold.

Thanks Tom.

Slowed down?
I collect the bugs in plastic vials and take them home to photograph. Only thing is that chilling in the fridge doesn't work very well since they're active when it's above freezing. On some I have to put them in the freezer for one to one and a half minutes. Just long enough to make them stop for a few seconds, but not quite long enough to kill them.
