Caterpillar on Blazingstars - Hyphantria cunea

Caterpillar on Blazingstars - Hyphantria cunea
Davidsonville, Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA
September 19, 2002
Perhaps a salt marsh moth (Estigmene acrea)? But it is more than 1,000 yards from the nearest marsh, a tidal, freshwater marsh. It is eating the flowering bud of a blazingstar, Liatris pilosa, in a dry sunny field. Please confirm id or shoot me down :-)

Not an ID, but I'll cast a vote for
E. acrea. According to the Guide, it can be found in "open wooded areas, meadows, farm fields, weedy waste places, prairie grasslands, and marshes - including salt marshes."

probably not estigmene acrea.
Some setae here are extremely long in the front, which is not a common characteristic of Estigmene acrea.

Please wait for an expert, but reminds me of Hyphantria cunea:

First impressions
My first impression was that this caterpillar is more likely to be a Fall webworm than a salt marsh caterpillar.
For reference, I submit this. I concur with Lynn...wait for an expert.
