White Sands scorpion - Paruroctonus utahensis
White Sands, Otero County, New Mexico, USA
June 6, 2005
It's a scorpion. It was at White Sands. It glows quite nicely under UV...

Paruroctonus utahensis
Paruroctonus utahensis (Williams, 1968)
Family Vaejovidae
Genus: Paruroctonus
Species: utahensis
Author: Stan Williams, 1968
Distribution: Sands from southeastern Utah and Arizona (Navajo Nation) nearly every dune system in New Mexico, into the northern part of Trans-Pecos Texas and in sands of the western Texas Panhandle.
Sting a bit painful, but nothing serious.

Great photo!
