Remarks
has more extensive markings than V. segmentata, but both species are variable in color. We really need more information (and better photos) showing the range of variation, and whether there is geographic or temporal disjunctions before we can definitely say that these are different species.
Considering how common mesquite is, these insects are surprisingly rare. I have taken them on only 6 occasions. Mostly V. segmentata is on mesquite; two series of V. laeta were on Acacia (A. constricta and A. greggii) so perhaps there is a host difference. --K.G.A. Hamilton, 8.I.2010
