Immature Male - Thanatus formicinus - male

Immature Male - Thanatus formicinus - Male
Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada
January 12, 2010
Size: BL = 6mm
Penultimate instar

This guy was out on the snow, on a mostly sunny day. Found him in a shadowy area, though, where he had slowed down quite a bit. Ambient temp. ~ 2C. I hope to get an ID if/when he matures.

Congrats
on it making it to adulthood and your ID. Nice job.

Thanks
I almost drowned it at one point when I put a drop of water in its vial (I didn't expect the spider to get stuck in it); but, after some hasty arachno-resuscitation (I put the spider on its back and blotted around its booklungs with Kleenex), it recovered.

I've got a couple of palp pictures I'll post later. They're grainy, but I hope to replace them with better ones at some point.

arachno-resuscitation
Now that is a great talent. :)

..
Just one of the many talents needed as a "para-arachnologist" (see my other posting elsewhere).

Moved
Moved from Thanatus.

Beautiful!
Now this is one I simply must subscribe to. I've never seen or dealt with any Thanatus before, so I will be eager to see what he turns out to be. :) Really nice habitus image, too, BTW.

Thanks
The spider was so cold from being on the snow that it could barely move when I eased it into the vial!

Very nice
I never would have guessed you'd find one of these in January.
