New spotted nitidulid! - Glischrochilus vittatus

New spotted nitidulid! - Glischrochilus vittatus
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
November 5, 2005
Size: 6 mm approx.
Came to diluted maple syrup with brewers yeast bait. The large head and pronotal shape remind me of a somewhat long-bodied Glischrochilus but I'm sure I've never even seen a photograph of one with markings that resemble these.

Moved

I just wanted to link here to this photo,
since it belongs with a set on bait stations and won't be moved here:

New record for New Hampshire, sorta!
After I got an ID for this beetle from nitidulid specialist Andrew Cline I checked the New Hampshire checklist online at the University of New Hampshire and saw that this species was not listed. Unfortunately, the beetle escaped from my light arena when I turned my attention to other photo subjects. It is probably holed up in my unheated bug photo studio for the winter. As soon as it or another shows up I'll send it along for the UNH collection.

We do have this, but....
All our specimens that look just like this are under the name Glischrocheilus vittatus (Say). I sense problems with the key.

No images
I found no Web images under either name.

Glischrochilus vittatus
This is not G. confluentus but instead it is G. vittatus. Within G. vittatus the markings can blend into one another like in other Glischrochilus species.
