Chalcolepidius apacheanus ? - Chalcolepidius

Chalcolepidius apacheanus ? - Chalcolepidius
Zion National Park, Washington County, Utah, USA
September 15, 2005
Size: 35 mm
Looked this up at Essig. Was told that the Elaterids need to be gone over by an expert ... but if the ones they have are ID'd correctly, this is Chalcolepidius apacheanus. The amount of white on the elytra and the pronotum made it different from other Chalcolepidius species in the collection. Also the shininess and smoothness of the elytra was different from other Chalcolepidius species.

The Chalcolepidius apacheanus specimens were from Arizona and Mexico. I haven't found definite evidence that Chalcolepidius apacheanus occurs in southern Utah.
