Moved
Moved from Chalcolepidius.

We seem to
have found the same species now in Patagonia,AZ. You never moved yours to species level...?

hi Margarethe
I guess I was waiting for a more certain ID on that one -- it sounds from Boris' comment here that it's questionable if C. apacheanus is a valid species or if it's a variation of C. webbi. What do you think? It sounds as if this genus needs some work. On the other hand, it does seem that with the current state of knowledge (or lack of) this should be C. apacheanus.

I'm back from a long exhausting work trip to French Polynesia ... hopefully can get back to my (six-legged) bugs a bit now instead of just the computer bugs. I did learn how to snorkle, at least. That was fun.

Hi Joyce
Dennis just added some descriptive info about C apachianus see under my image - Casey may have been overly eager but for now I'm moving it to the species. Maybe the genus will get a workover by geneticists soon like so many others.

I think youre right
This species is pretty distinctive. Congrats on a great shot of a beautiful beetle.
