This moth is representative of the "strange phenotypes" that pop up along the western Plains and eastern Rockies. Generally thought to be "cecropia moths," some individuals amongst these marginal populations exhibit traits suggestive of past and/or present "gloveri" gene influence. According to contacts, most of the "Cecropia moths" seen in this area are similar in size and shape to the specimen pictured here.

*It's important to mention these moths may not be "hybrids" at all, but rather represent the phenotypic extremes within the cecropia taxon proper. Nonetheless, some of these localized populations seem to be self sustaining and remain quite unique in appearance.
