Robber Fly - Cyrtopogon - female

Robber Fly - Cyrtopogon - Female
Near Gold Lake, Lakes Basin, Plumas National Forest, Sierra County, California, USA
June 29, 2007
Size: Head to abdomen ~12mm
Landed on my backpack in marshy area in montane coniferous forest at ~6670' elevation. I calculated the body length (from tip of abdomen to tip of head, not including antennae) by counting the number of fabric strands in a centimeter and correlating that to pixels using the measure tool in Photoshop.

Nice looking robber, Aaron!
Looks like it nabbed itself a leafhopper for lunch...

Thanks Harsi
I couldn't tell what it was feeding on.

BTW, I've got another asilid coming right up... :-)
