pupa

pupa
Morse Wildlife Preserve, Pierce County, Washington, USA
February 7, 2010
Size: around 10 mm
Found a few of these in/under an old Doug Fir log. With those long legs I was thinking wasp pupa.

I would exclude Cleridae
because of the long antennae.

pupa
This is one I'd want to rear if I'd found it.... I've had some luck rearing beetle pupae (that's my guess too on this one). You don't have to feed them at this stage, and you can release them when/if they successfully eclose.

Beetle?
Reminds me of a beetle pupa. The fuzziness makes me think of clerids, but that's pure speculation. Did you collect any to see what comes out? ...Nice shot, whatever it is.

I might try that
I'll have to get permission to collect first (which is in process).
