Red Admiral Egg - Vanessa atalanta

Red Admiral Egg - Vanessa atalanta
Baton Rouge - BREC Bluebonnet Swamp Nature Center, East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, USA
February 7, 2010
Size: 1/16 inch
Revisited the same egg today.
Now it's black.
I am hoping that means it is ready to hatch.
I hope it does not mean that it has died in the egg.
The caterpillars have a lot of black.

Once hatched the caterpillars fold a leaf around the selves and tie themselves in with web.
I hope to see that.
I don't know if it will fold this same leaf or crawl to a smaller one higher up on the plant.

John
