leaf beetle - Trirhabda flavolimbata - Female
Waddell Creek near coast (a part of Big Basin Redwoods State Park), Santa Cruz County, California, USA
July 26, 2009
I'm posting this so Bugguide has a record of the plant this beetle is on, Baccharis douglasii. Aaron Schusteff id'd the plant and found the beetle. I'm assuming the beetle was not just "passing through" -- she seemed quite content to stay on this particular plant despite my bothering her.

Other Trirhabda flavolimbata in the guide so far have been photographed on Baccharis pilularis.

Neat Image!
She takes the cake for "most gravid" T. flavolimbata in my book!

In hindsight, I wish we would have stuck around a bit longer...maybe you could have got a good shot of some eggs :-)

PS: I've just posted some shots of an adult actually feeding on Baccharis douglasii.

good!
That makes it even more clear...
