Another cholevine leiodid? - Sciodrepoides

Another cholevine leiodid? - Sciodrepoides
Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA
May 29, 2005
Size: about 3mm
Collected a half-dozen or so of these two-tone brown-furred beetles from malodorous carcass of a skunk that I flopped around on a sheet of 4-mill polyethylene to encourage escapees. I called them "delicate" in file name since they wilted fast in my light arena, even with frequent sprays of water.

To my eye they bear a strong resemblance to this tiny two-tone brown beetle I found on a mushroom, which has been IDed as a cholevine, and their activity suggests they could be "small carrion beetles" -- the common name for this group. Note the tibial spurs.

I've placed it where it belongs.
Thanks, Belov.

The habits, antennae, tibial spurs and general appearance seem to agree with this subfamily.
