Size: Ant - 3-4mm
Not sure about the ant - I believe the hoppers are
Entylia carinata
- adults found on neighboring sunflowers.

An ID to species level -i.e., distinguishing betwenn F. pallidefulva and F. dolosa - is hardly possible at this magnification level.

Thanks - I didn't think it would be possible to get to species - genus helps tremendously - I am far from an ant expert. I have new macro equipment on the way, should yield better images this summer.

Best we can do.
And it's even worse than Richard states; There are four quite similar-looking species in the group in NC, distinguished by minutiae of measurements and hair patterns.
