Isopod? - Polyxenus

Isopod? - Polyxenus
Norfolk, Virginia, USA

Size: ~2.5mm
I've never seen one of these before. Really, one of the most beautiful small creatures I have ever come across. Found between layers of decaying tree bark in the leaf litter.

Who Knew...
Who knew there was a coral reef in your leaf litter?

:^)
It sure looks like an aquatic critter doesn't it? Actually, it has a very fluid movement as if it is swimming close to the surface.

Amazing!
Nature just keeps shellin' out the beauty! I appreciate you sharing these awe inspiring images with us! :)

Thanks Mandy and Jeff...
I really enjoy bringing these images to BG and will continue to do so!

Wow...
jaw hits table.

That's a new one for me, too.
Nice shots!

Thank You Ken!
Doesn't look like it has enough legs to be called a millipede :^)
