Near Ruraldale, Upshur County, West Virginia, USA

I recall several folks posted Halloween spider pictures at Halloween time, well this is my belated entry. Found on the side of my house about a foot up from the ground. ID help appreciated.

marbled orb weaver
Found one of this species in my friends bathroom western illinos about 30 miles east of mississippi river

Great shot
and your spider is gorgeous...perfect colors for Halloween!

I would say
a marbled orb weaver that recently laid eggs.

Thanks
Jeff, Lynette, Thanks for commenting.

Ah, recently laid eggs... That would explain the unusual raisin-like shape of the abdomen. The reason for that shape had me stumped and I was thinking there must be a species I wasn't seeing in the guides.

Thanks!
