That's my best guess.

btw, unless this is a species that stays light colored, I would also say this beetle is newly emerged from pupa and has yet to reach full color.

It was in rotten wood that fell apart in my hands to reveal it.

Once again I am reminded: observe, observe, observe. My mind has a hard time remembering that for every criter there's another smaller criter that wants to eat it!
