How does a mealworm pupate?

I have been keeping a single store bought meal worm. I fed it apple, oats, and water. It was doing fine, but last week it curled up and has just remained curled up since then. If I look close when I poke at it, I can see slight movements so it is still alive. Is this how it is going to pupate, or whats going on? I have never seen anything like this; a few days after it first curled up it twisted itself into a strange position, kind of like a coiled spring with it's head sticking straight up. Then it went back into the curled position

The "skin"...
will split and the pupa will wiggle free. It will be white, the legs, head, etc. will be suggested. As it matures it will darken and mature parts will form. Then, TA DA, a beetle will appear. The pupa do not become immobilized, the ability to twitch helps to deter being eaten by other larva or adults.
I used to maintain colonies of these as critter food.

Hmmm
sound there is really something wrong with the one I have then...

Thanks for the info
