Polistes carolina
Is it possible for these guys to have yellow eyes? There's a nest in my eves outside, but it's hidden. There are lookouts, and I swear that they have yellow eyes, and they really creep me out.

Right
A male warming up on a sunny November day. No other North-American species has a wholly orange-brown gaster.
By the way, the valid spell is probably P. carolinus rather than P. carolina, just as for Eumenes fraternus.

Polistes carolina
As I understand it, the spelling Polistes carolina is valid if the specific epithet is a noun in apposition rather than an adjective modifying the generic name (ICZN Article 31.2.1/34.2.1).
