Yucca Giant-skipper - Megathymus yuccae - Male

This was perching, likely on the look-out for females, on a hillside covered with Long-leaf pine, and its hostplant, Yucca filamentosa, nearby.

Appears to be a male, based on Randy Emmitt's photos.

Compare the female, a photo taken in the same North Carolina Sandhills region, but about 30 miles away, almost precisely seven years later:
