Try looking
in Trichiotinus.

There are several similar species (the sole PA record is for T. affinis). Perhaps one of the experts will be able to narrow it down for you--or tell you if I'm not even close. :)

there are 4 spp in PA:
T. assimilis, T. bibens, T. piger and T. affinis. I am leaning towards T. affinis as the pygidium does not look centrally setose. However, for an accurate ID of this genus, it helps to see the punctation on the elytra. Characters often difficult to see in images.

I should have been clearer.
BugGuide's sole record from PA is affinis. I didn't mean to imply that other species could not be found there. Thanks for the additional information. :)

hey Ken...
I understood what you meant...I was just expanding info :)

Trichiotinus affinis
Most likely Trichiotinus affinis. I think those four species could be found in PA. T. assimilis has bright white maculations that are very much more distinct than in the other species. T.bibens is more shiny and metallic. The two remaining speices, T. piger and T. affinis, are quite variable and can be tough to distinguish. In general piger is bigger, lighter, and has more prominent elytral ridges.

Alas
I did not get any good images of this beast.
