Made it through the winter - Acanthocephala declivis

Made it through the winter - Acanthocephala declivis
Desoto, Dallas County, Texas, USA
March 4, 2010
I'm posting this, not because the image itself adds any new information, but because it shows that this one did overwinter as an adult. I believe spring is finally here, and this one appeared on my fence, either from the oak tree above or from the leaf litter that I was cleaning out below. It survived a very cold Texas winter which included many sub-freezing nights and our first 12" snowfall. Besides that, I just can't help myself from taking a picture anytime I see one of these. They are amazing!
