very small fly - Eusiphona

very small fly - Eusiphona
Archbold Biological Station - Lake Placid, Highlands County, Florida, USA
September 7, 2009
Size: 4-5mm
It would not let me approach very closely and all these shots are from further away than I would have liked. Despite this, it stayed in the area even as I made numerous attempts to move closer for photographs and would frequently hover in one place. I first noted it near the entrance to a bee burrow I was watching, I don't know if that is significant or not.

Moved
I may be going out on a limb here, but I think this is Eusiphona. The enlarged anal area on the wing points to Milichiinae, while the long proboscis and many orbital bristles seem to point to this genus.

Moved from Flies.

Good going, Tim & Joel
Another new genus.

Not an ID, but reminds me of...

The eyes on your, however, are a lot nicer.
