Washington County, Wisconsin, USA
March 6, 2010
Size: about 20 mm
Saw this beetle crawling on the snow while X-C skiing. It was warm, maybe 40o F. perhaps a carrion beetle? any known to come out on warm days in winter? image is not great, had small camera with me while skiing.

Moved from Barklice, Booklice, and Parasitic Lice.

Sorry I meant to move one image over to Psocodea and accidentally moved like 10 there. Whoops!

Incidentally...
I think (I hope!) your size estimate is off. If it's really 20 cm, you sure grow 'em big up north!

Something in/near
Oiceoptoma, perhaps?

The Guide has records as early as April for these critters in Wisconsin.

I'm no expert, however, so please wait for a second opinion.

Winter insects are crazy.
Haha I like that the description is "It was warm, maybe 40F". I'm a WI native, but have moved out to CA and have to listen to everyone gripe and moan about how cold it is when its 40 out...

I plan on moving back to WI :)

correct ID...
