Grasshopper babies - Schistocerca

Size: each about 6-8 mm

I was very surprised to come across this large gathering of what I think are juvenile grasshoppers. They were all on a Coreopsis flower about one and a half inches wide. Half an hour later I went back to check and they had dispersed. Newly hatched perhaps?
Do juvenile grasshoppers resemble the adults they will become in coloring and features?

Schistocerca

After staring at these for some time, and now that I have looked at the full-sized image, I see that Eric was correct, they are Bird Grasshopper nymphs, newly hatched. I should have registered the relatively large size too - surely way too big for Aptenopedes that young.

Grasshoppers

I am certain those are grasshopper babies. That's an interesting shot with them all grouped together. There must have been eggs close by.

yes, and

I should add these were on a nursery plant in a pot on a bench. I think probably the eggs were laid in the potting soil, so the hatchlings had to go up to get out.

I had some on a cactus in a pot last spring. They clustered together the same way when they first came out but they were brown.
