Moved from Flies. The stocky look with not-quite-sharp yellow markings suggests Eristalini (as stated earlier). Toxomerus is much slimmer.

Not an ID...
but it looks more like a Palpada.

 
Palpada, confirmed.
They appear to have three thorax patterns, with this light grey stripped one being the most common. These flies are typically more colorful than the very similar Eristalis sp. (One Eristalis shares this particular thorax pattern.)

Oh, and it's a boy~!
