Xyela - female

Xyela - Female
Parkwood, Durham County, North Carolina, USA
March 14, 2010
Size: 3 mm
I found this little wasp associated with a bunch of termites (Reticulitermes, I think) under the bark of a standing dead tree. Body length (excluding ovipositor) 3 mm.

Thanks for help on ID--I was barking up the wrong part of the phylogenetic tree! The association with the termites is odd--perhaps the adult was sheltering under bark, coincidentally in the presence of the termites.
