Scale Insect? Mealybug? - Ceroplastes

Scale Insect? Mealybug? - Ceroplastes
Encino, Los Angeles County, California, USA
November 17, 2005
Size: 1/8 inch
On Wild Buckwheat (Eriogonum fasciculatum) in my front yard. I checked the plant today, and these are pretty much gone, so they either moved or got eaten.

I've found similar ones on the myrtle plant near the other scale-type insect I found today:.

Update: I went back a week later and found them again: they're still in the same place- I just lost track of where that was.
