chrysalis - Callosamia promethea

chrysalis - Callosamia promethea
near to Pin Oak, Hampshire County, West Virginia, USA
March 7, 2010
Size: 2 inches
I had noticed this chrysalis hanging from a tree in our driveway.
the branch had broken off in the heavy snow and winds, found it later under the snow. I stuck it in a large outdoor planter near to where I found it.
this chrysalis had a long strand of silk holding it to the branch.

promethea moth cocoon
thank you both for the I.D.

cocoon
looks Promethea-like to me... it seems to have emerged last season due to the exit hole

Giant silk moth cocoon...
I think it may be a very baggy promethea moth cocoon, which apparently is the norm for this species in the southern Appalachians, but I haven't seen a picture of what this looks like to compare.

Please edit the location information--"Hampshire County, West Virginia County" doesn't seem quite right...
