A long shot on genus
Cryptotreta. I got this from an old California chart on wing patterns. This genus is the only one shown there with a wing shaped like that of the subject.

Good job!
So where did you find the chart? You ought to photograph it and post it. That would be a great thing to have on Bugguide.

Chart is problematic
It's old, ca 1962 and probably copyrighted. There are genus changes. I don't have the whole thing, it's diffucult to use, plus my copy is hard to read. And it's geographically limited. All that said, the thing is:

The Fruit Flies of California bu Foote and Blanc
Published in Bulletin of the California Insect Survey

You may search it here and find a working link, provided by, I think, Martin Hauser.

I found it...
I found the PDF document and the chart was there:

Scroll down to page 109.
Thanks, Ron!

My pleasure, Carol.
FYI, on page 112 of the document, genus Paroxyna is now Campiglossa.

Certainly resembles a Tephritid,
but I'll be danged if I can find a decent match. You may want to move your post to Diptera for expert attention.

Thanks, Ken..
I couldn't find a match, either. I'll move it.
