Jumping Spider - Habronattus calcaratus - male

Jumping Spider - Habronattus calcaratus - Male
Acton, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA
March 20, 2010
Although it was snowing here this (26 March) AM, a week ago temperatures were in the 60s and I observed a variety of salticids (6 species). One of the individuals was this Habronattus calcaratus maddisoni. As I also saw this species (although in a different locale) as late as October 22nd last fall I assume this spider overwinters as an adult. This seems to suggest this species has two generations per year. Images are from video and the attached link shows video of March adults including 2 examples of courtship (ed. 24 Mar 2012)
