Saint Andrews Cotton Stainer bug - Dysdercus andreae
Fort Lauderdale at Las Olas Riverwalk, Broward County, Florida, USA

Size: 11 mm
There is a colony of these insects in front of the River House restaurant on the Las Olas Riverwalk in Fort Lauderdale. They are quite colorful. They were ID'd by the insect ID service of the University of Florida.

Length?
Neat bug and photo. To me the length (head to tip of abdomen) looks to be about 9 mm, if the scale on the left is in mm. (Usually antennae are not included in length measurements, I believe.)

I moved this to a guide page for the species, incidentally.

You don't need to post to ID Request
If you are certain of the ID, just search for the genus or species (but not both since the names are located at different nodes). Drill down into the taxonomy until you are on the page that has images of the same species. If you click on IMAGES at that point you will find a tab for add image. You can add your image to the guide - right where it belongs. The image will still show up under RECENT so visitors to the site can see the new image you have posted and comment on it if they choose. We moved the weevil to the guide too. You can find it by looking in Recent or in it's page on the guide, or you can type in your contributer name and you will find all the images you have submitted. Troy has built a very flexible site. We hope to see more of your images.
