Creepy caterpillar - Phigalia plumogeraria

Creepy caterpillar - Phigalia plumogeraria
Marin County, California, USA
March 31, 2010
Size: 15 mm
I found this caterpillar on a Valley Oak. I never see it eat - it mainly just stays in weird positions for long periods of time.

Moved
Moved from Geometrid Moths. Maybe P. plumogeraria??

We would suggest Phigalia titea
if this were in the east. Don't know what similar species occur in CA

Thanks!
It does look very similar to the caterpillars in that genus. I'll have to wait and see what it turns into to be sure.
