Long-tailed Mealybug (Pseudococcus longispinus) ?

Long-tailed Mealybug (Pseudococcus longispinus) ?
Baldwin Hills, Los Angeles County, California, USA
April 11, 2010
Size: 5mm
I found this mealybug on a Pittosporum tobira (Green Pittosporum), which has dark green glossy leaves arranged around the stem. Some of its white, fragrant flowers were still blooming. Plenty of ants were guarding aphids and seemed to tolerate the mealybug.

long tailed mealybugs?
If the white mealybugs have 2 to 3 long tails, it may be the long tailed mealybug. Some ant species also herd and protect mealybugs as well as aphids for the honeydew to feed their colonies.
