Harmonia axyridis

Harmonia axyridis
Arboretum, Madison, Wisconsin, USA
October 24, 2005
These harlequin ladybirds were found on the bark of an elm tree, Ulmus x Accolade; it looks as if they were looking for suitable hibernating places in sapsucker holes.
However in another picture a wasp is also visible, thus suggesting that perhaps they were trying to find sustenance, as it was rather late for aphids.
In any case, will sapsucker woodpeckers eat them? Have these ladybugs any predators in North America?
It is known that eight species of birds preyed on H. axyridis in Russia (Nechayev and Kuznetsov, 1973). Have any birds been observed eating them in North America?
