Eight Spotted Skimmer??? - Plathemis lydia - male

Eight Spotted Skimmer??? - Plathemis lydia - Male
Taylor County, Wisconsin, USA
June 4, 2005
Is this an eight-spotted skimmer? I've not been able to find any other images that look like this one (with the white bordering just the center black spots on the hind wing and with black extensions toward the tips of the wings in the large black spot areas). Is this just an immature insect or a different species entirely?

Check out the Common Whitetail
in the guide here. It is a male in adolescent coloring. Nice image! Glad to see you back posting. Hope to see more of your lovely images.

Thanks for the identification help and the welcome back. I'm getting around to identifying some of the insects I took photos of earlier in the year so I'll probably have a few more that I'll be hoping for help on. Thanks again.
