Azure - Celastrina

Azure - Celastrina
Ballston Lake, Saratoga County, New York, USA
April 23, 2010
This butterfly made a brief appearance on our apple tree. I didn't get a good look, but from what I could see the top was a somewhat more vivid blue. It's been an early spring, maybe 10 days ahead of usual. ID help appreciated.

A guess would be a Spring Azure
Celastrina ladon, but I know of know way to be certain which species. I think it will probably still be a while until these Azure populations are truly understood and sorted out. This guess is based mostly on appearance and early date. In the mean time, it can reside with all the others of uncertain identity.

Moved from Butterflies (excluding skippers).

ladon
I would agree that this is probably ladon based on the date.
