FIREFLIES - Ellychnia corrusca

FIREFLIES - Ellychnia corrusca
Greenville, Providence County, Rhode Island, USA
April 29, 2010
Size: ~1/2"
I've had these all over the outside of my house for the past several days. Most were positioned "end-to-end" but not these two. This photo was taken around 8:30 AM, EDT. They appear to be fireflies to me. Last night went down to 31.5 degrees F. Is this too early in the season for fireflies? Do they overwinter as adults? Are those positioned "end-to-end" mating?

Moved
Moved from ID Request. The last picture shows mating. I have seen adults in winter, on a fallen tree in which they may have been hibernating.

Ellychnia corrusca, most likely
