Caterpillar in coniferous forest - Gnophaela vermiculata

Caterpillar in coniferous forest - Gnophaela vermiculata
McCloud - Pondosa Flats, Shasta County, California, USA
May 12, 2005
Size: about 1"
What is this? It was residing on herbaceous plants growing in openings in a mixed conifer forest.

Hmmm
the yellow and black combination reminds me of Haploa, but I don't see an exact match in Wagner(1) or on this site. Are there any Haploa species native to CA? It might be another Tiger Moth species, perhaps.

reminds us more of Gnophaela

Thank You.
I appreciate the identification. What a great site. I am sure I will be coming to you again for your help.

Thanks again.

Thanks for the contribution!
I'm moving this nice image to the guide.

I think J & J have nailed it!
Looks like a match to me.
