Tiphiid - Tiphia - male - female

Tiphiid - Tiphia - Male Female
Lady Lake, Lake County, Florida, USA
December 13, 2005
This female was determined not to allow him to mate, she ended up going under a fallen oak leaf, and brushing him off. The female was around 12mm.

Tiphiid Wasps
Based on the hairy, spiny legs of both partners. Moreover, the right side of the male's pronotum is clearly visible, and does reach the tegula: this excludes any Sphecid wasp (to which Astata belongs).
It is not unusual for females of many solitary wasps to mate only once and to refuse any further attempt from any male.
