Carrion Beetle -
Nicrophorus pustulatus
Oberlin, Lorain County, Ohio, USA
July 19, 2005
Size: 23 mm
Crawled to UV light in the woods. I keyed it out to Silphidae, but can't find any images that resemble this one.

Thank you
Thank you for moving this to a guide page Patrick.
I did a little research on this beetle and found that they are parasitic to various snake eggs. They make a small hole in the snake eggs and lay their own eggs inside it.

Fascinating!
That life history is quite amazing. I added a reference to the guide page for the species.
