You are right, this is indeed a species of Eristalis. It is a female, which you can see by the non touching eyes on top of the head. I don't think it is one of the species we already ID-ed to species.

Could be, but..
There are about 17 species of Eristalis in the Nearctic, and I don't know them all. There might be several other species that look a lot like dimidiatus, but that is normally not clearly distinguishable from a picture!
