Another insect on asparagus - Syritta pipiens

Another insect on asparagus - Syritta pipiens
Scott County, Virginia, USA
May 20, 2010
Size: Small
We have a very bad infestation of the asparagus beetle (Crioceris asparagi) and I'm hoping one of its natural enemies will show up. I have no clue what this insect is, but it was perched on the asparagus frond and I'm hoping it'll eat my asparagus beetles. Will it?

Syrphid of some kind.

If this is correct--and, mind you, that's a big if--its larvae feed on decaying organic matter, and the adults take nectar--not a lot of help with your infestation, I'm afraid.

Still, I could be wrong, so wait for other opinions.
