Tawny Cockroach - Ectobius lapponicus

Tawny Cockroach - Ectobius lapponicus
Kennebunk, Maine, USA
July 28, 2003
another view of Ectobius pallidus, the Pallid Roach,or Spotted Mediterranean Cockroach....ID by Eric Eaton

Ectobius lapponicus
This is Ectobius lapponicus. It is the only one of the three introduced European Ectobius that has become widespread and common in the Northeast. Sometimes they will get into houses, but they are clearly a forest roach, and can be quite common on various knee-high plants. The males typically have the pronotum dark, while the females are paler by comparison, and more oval with short wings.

Pallid roach
This is actually an introduced roach, Ectobius pallida. Found here only in the extreme northeast U.S. Lovely insect.
