Long-horned beetle in AZ - Crioprosopus magnificus

Long-horned beetle in AZ - Crioprosopus magnificus
Outside of Tucson, Arizona, USA
July 22, 2003
Found this while watching hummingbirds in Miller Canyon outside Tucson, AZ.

Longhorn indeed:-)
Looks to be Crioprosopis magnificus, the so-called "Texas Canyon longhorn" for the locality the species was found at orginally. According to Carl Olson at the U of Arizona, these handsome beetles are only locally common, patchy in distribution, and seem to emerge at a given locality only every three years! You are a lucky man to find one:-)
