Size: 2"
This large bug was found on a cool morning. Searching Bug Guide I found one photo that is a ringer but it did not specify the genus and species. I hope someone can give me more information.

#39975 Identification -- Vella fallax texana
This is the antlion Vella fallax texana (Hagen, 1887).

Vella fallax?
Generally, ant lions are not that easy to identify unless they are among the few with distinctive wing markings. That said, if this specimen was 'really' large, it might be Vella fallax, our largest North American species, with at least two subspecies. My specimens, from front of head to tips of folded wings, probably exceed three inches.
