Habitat - Argiope argentata

Habitat - Argiope argentata
Coto de Caza, Thomas Riley Wilderness Park, Orange County, California, USA
December 22, 2005
Silver argiopes are often abundant in small, well developed cactus patches. At least forty females of all sizes were present in this patch.
Although the webs are often connected, the spiders seem to respect each others space.
Cactus patches are the prefered habitat throughout Orange and San Diego counties, though most patches do not house any argiopes.
Honey bees appear to be the primary prey at this site.
